Kerala in 7 days

When we think about most beautiful places in India, Kerala by default takes the top spot. It is truly God’s own country. The best thing in Kerala is, you can enjoy different type of holidays here, be it beautiful green hills, adventurous wildlife, serene beaches, unique backwater experience or relaxing Ayurveda massage. Whether you have less or more days, you can visit Kerala with your choice of place. But if you want to cover all of the above experiences, you should visit Kerala at least for a week. So here is a brief itinerary for your 6 nights/7 days’ visit to Kerala:

Day 1: Kochi – Munnar – 135 Km 4 Hrs.

Welcome to Kerala. Kochi is the landing point for all the places in North Kerala. After arriving to Kochi, proceed to Munnar, where sprawling tea plantations, picture book towns and winding lanes make it a unique experience. On the way, you can visit the following places:

  • Valara waterfalls
  • Cheyyappara waterfalls
  • Viewpoints
  • Pallivasal
  • Kallar Waterfalls

Day 2: Munnar 

Beautiful tea estates are waiting for you. Start for your sightseeing in Munnar, covering:

  • Mattupetty side of Munnar- Photo point, Mattupetty Dam
  • Rajamala National Park (House of the mountain goats – the Nilgiri Tahrs).
  • Echo point (The natural Echo phenomenon is always happening here).
  • Shooting point (Famous point where normally film shooting takes place).
  • Tea Museum (A place where u can see how they are processing tea) – Closes at 4 PM so go before that time.
  • Blossom Park.

Day 3: Munnar – Thekkady – 110 Km 3 Hrs.

Morning call in Munnar and then proceed to Thekkady. Thekkady is famous for its wildlife. It is home for tigers, deer, bison and many migrant birds. On arrival in Thekkady, visit the Periyar wildlife sanctuary where you can enjoy wildlife while cruising on a boat. There are many other activities to do in Thekkady:

  • Kalari Payattu (A traditional martial Art).
  • Kathakali (A traditional dance).
  • Spice Plantation visit.
  • Elephant ride.

You have Elephant ride in Munnar also. But as it is quite famous, it is expensive and crowded there. So we would suggest you to do Elephant ride in Thekkady for better experience and it is cheap also.

Day 4 Thekkady – Alleppey – 130 Km 3.5 Hrs.

There are only two places in India where you can enjoy houseboat experience, Kerala and Kashmir. In Kerala, Alleppey is the house for many beautiful and luxury houseboats. Start early from Thekkady to reach Alleppey on time. In Alleppey, you can enjoy amazing houseboat cruise. Cruise takes you through the backwaters and inland waterways of Alleppey. Food is served on houseboat. We would recommend to stay overnight on the house boat and relax for a day.

Day 5: Alleppey – Kovalam – 160 Km 5 Hrs.

After absorbing stunning beauty in Alleppey, proceed to Kovalam with sightseeing along Kovalam town and beach. Kovalam, Hawa, Light House beach are the beautiful and serene beaches where you can just relax and spend your moments in quiet.

Day 6: Kovalam – Kanyakumari – Kovalam – Day trip

On this day, you can go for an excursion to Kanyakumari. Kanyakumari is the southernmost point of India and famous for its beautiful sunset. It takes around 2.5 hours (80 Km) to reach Kanyakumari from Kovalam. You can visit following places in Kanyakumari:

  • Kanyakumari Beach
  • Kanyakumari Temple
  • Vivekananda Rock Memorial
  • Padmanabhapuram Palace
  • Thiruvalluvar Statue

Start back to Kovalam after seeing sunset at Kanyakumari.

Day 7: Kovalam – Trivandrum – 18 Km 40 min.

This is the last day of trip. You can visit below places in Trivandrum before your departure:

  • Padmanabhaswami Temple
  • Sree Chithra Art Gallary
  • Zoo, Naiper Museum, Priyadershini Planetarium
  • Kuthiramalika palace
  • Shangumugham beach    

We believe this is an ideal itinerary for Kerala, so you can take it and go. But if you have less time, you can choose destinations according to your preference or if you have more time, you can spend more time at your choice of destination. But yes keep in mind the travel time in between the destinations.
